SPICE

ISO 15504 / SPICE (Software Process Improvement and Capability Determination) is the international standard for the assessment of software development processes. The standard focuses on continuous process improvement.

ISO 15504 is based on a bi-dimensional model:

• In the process dimension, processes for software development are defined based on the requirements of ISO 12207.
  
  
• In the capability dimension, degrees of maturity are set.

For process evaluation, both dimensions are put together and measured against 9 criteria set in the standard (e. g. definition, management and measurement of processes). The strengths and weaknesses found will be the basis for continuous process improvement.
